Free Press wins 2012 Great Idea Awards

THE Winnipeg Free Press has won several industry-related awards from Newspapers Canada.

The 2012 Great Idea Awards go to those newspapers across the country that have best demonstrated creativity and innovation.

The Free Press News Café, which just marked its one-year anniversary in the heart of Winnipeg's downtown, won first place in the daily newspaper category with circulation over 25,000.

The Free Press contest "It's a Winnipeg Thing" won third prize in the same category.

Also lauded with a first-place win, in the digital innovation category, was WFPtv, which has added a video channel to winnipegfreepress.com

The Free Press federal election coverage grabbed third place in the same category.

Finally, the Free Press advertising department landed a third-place finish for its MTS Hoof Prints ad.
