Layoffs at Enduron

  • Print

ENDURON Custom Inc., one of the rising stars among Winnipeg's medium-size aerospace and defence industry parts suppliers, has been forced to temporarily lay off about 20 workers.

The custom metal alloy fabrication company has about 100 employees and recently landed a major contract with General Dynamics. For the past several years it has been supplying parts for General Dynamics's London, Ont.-built Stryker personnel carrier.

"This is a difficult thing for us to do but we do have some things on the horizon that we are quite optimistic about," said Enduron president Richard Klassen. He said while Enduron has won new defence industry contracts, some have not been released and he does not know when they will be.

Klassen said Enduron is approaching 50 per cent of its workload in the defence sector and with the U.S. military pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan, demand for equipment such as personnel carriers is declining.
