Velangeline F. Lachance

marketing and communications specialist, from Commissionaires Manitoba has received her marketing management diploma from the University of Winnipeg, Professional, Applied and Continuing Education. This diploma adds to her bachelor of arts degree, public relations diploma and management certificate. She is also the president of the Manitoba Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. She has worked in communications for over four years in the lifestyle, fashion, and not-for-profit industry.

Darren Fast, PhD

has been appointed director of the Technology Transfer Office by the office of the vice-president Research and International at the University of Manitoba. The TTO oversees intellectual property and helps researchers form alliances with local and global business partners. Dr. Fast comes to the University of Manitoba from the Public Health Agency of Canada, where he was the senior intellectual property adviser, responsible for ensuring intellectual property protection for new technologies as well as moving technologies into the private sector. He is also the president of Solalta Advisors Ltd., where he provides market and business development services for early stage technologies.

Digvir S. Jayas

vice-president (research and international) and distinguished professor at the University of Manitoba, was awarded a 2012 Alumni Achievement Award by the University of Saskatchewan for his research and significant contributions to the agricultural industry. He conducts research related to drying, handling and storing grains and oilseeds and digital-image processing for grading and automation of processing operations in the agri-food industry. Jayas has authored or co-authored over 700 technical articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings and books dealing with storing, drying, handling and quality monitoring of grains.

Bill Menzies

has joined Dillon Consulting Ltd. as a senior transit planner after his recent retirement as the manager of service development for the City of Winnipeg transit department. Menzies has over 30 years of experience with Winnipeg's transit system, and has been a member of the City of Winnipeg's Transit Senior Management Team since 1995. He is an active participant in the Canadian transit industry with an excellent knowledge of industry trends and practices at the national and international levels.

Ayli Klein

has joined Fillmore Riley LLP's family law department. She will work on a range of matters in the family law field, including separation and divorce, custody and access, child and spousal support, prenuptial agreements, cohabitation and common-law relationship agreements, guardianship, and adoption. Klein graduated with a Juris Doctor from Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba and completed her articles in Winnipeg. She previously obtained a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Winnipeg.

Kevin T. Williams

a managing partner at Taylor McCaffrey LLP, has been elected to serve as chairman of its board of directors for St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. Williams joined the STBHF board in 2000. He has served both on the executive committee (2004 to present) and the finance committee (2004 to 2012), of which he was chairman for eight years. Williams has been practising law for more than 20 years. At Taylor McCaffrey LLP, he has successfully represented clients before all courts in Manitoba, the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before numerous administrative tribunals, professional and regulatory bodies.

Kerri Hiebert

has been appointed chapter administrator for the Canadian Society of Association Executives Manitoba chapter. CSAE Manitoba provides local association professionals with significant opportunities to sharpen their existing skills and learn new ones.

Sandra Dudych

has been appointed marketing co-ordinator for Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Prior to this new appointment, Dudych was a community relations specialist at Manitoba Public Insurance. In that capacity, she was responsible for the development and administration of strategic sponsorships, grants and donations.

Scott Hammond

of SMS Engineering Ltd. is the recipient of the 2012 Member-in-Training Award presented by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba for his commitment to his community and his profession. A LEED-accredited professional, Hammond has been the mechanical designer and project manager on numerous plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation and air conditioning projects within Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba.

Nadi Urban Design Studio

placed fourth out of 250 landscape design proposals in the international design competition sponsored by Land Art Generator Initiative. Nadi was the only Canadian firm honoured and the Winnipeg studio's work will be part of an exhibit that opened in New York in October and will travel in exhibits as far as Dubai. Their design -- called 99 Red Balloons -- is Nadi's solution to both beautify and create energy from New York's largest landfill site.

Tom Dooley

a partner at Aikins Law, has received a Lexpert Zenith Award celebrating leadership. The Zenith Awards honoured lawyers who have been change-agents for 40 years or more for their clients, firms, companies, departments, faculties, profession colleagues and/or communities. Dooley's award recognized his significant influence within the agricultural community, his innovative work drafting statutes and regulations, and his contribution to dealing with legal and business issues faced by Canadian farmers. It also recognized his extensive community service.
