Dr. Michael Czubryt

principal Investigator, molecular pathophysiology, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, St-Boniface Hospital Research, was recently appointed a Fellow of the American Physiological Society Cardiovascular Section. Czubryt received the honour at the annual Cardiovascular Section dinner held as part of Experimental Biology 2013, in Boston.

 

Sylvie Pritchard

will be joining Swagelok Central Canada as a customer-service representative. In this role, she will be part of a team dedicated to effectively assessing our customers' needs. Swagelok Central Canada is owned and operated by Winnipeg Fluid System Technologies Ltd.

 

Pattie Moore

will receive a 2013 Alumni of Distinction award from the University of Manitoba. For over 30 years, she has worked in the public-health field throughout Manitoba and she created many first-of-its-kind outreach initiatives, including the Machray School Project, which reduced tooth decay in at-risk inner-city children from 90 per cent to under 10.

 

Dan Mazier and Allan Chambers

received Certificates of Merit from the faculty of agricultural and food sciences at the University of Manitoba in recognition of leadership with agricultural organizations and outstanding service to the community. Mazier is the vice-president of Keystone Agricultural Producers, serves on a number of community organizations and operates a grain and oilseeds farm near Justice, Man. Chambers, who died in October 2012, farmed near Belmont, Man., taught at the University of Manitoba and served the agricultural community in many capacities.

announces its new team of chairs for Manitoba: Barry Bernhard, Lynn Bishop, Joanne Sigurdson and Ken Sontag. TEC Canada is recognized as the pre-eminent peer-to-peer mentoring program for Canadian business leaders to advance the growth and development of their businesses.

 

Co-chairs of the Manitoba Federation of Non-Profit Organizations Inc.

Martin Itzkow and Sandra Oakley and the board of directors are pleased to announce the hiring of Anthony Augustine as their new executive director. Augustine brings more than 14 years of experience working in the non-profit sector. Prior to working in non-profit organizations, he was employed by the provincial and federal governments working on various employment, career-development and web-based projects. Along with his role as executive director at the MFNPO, he is the treasurer of Y.E.S. Manitoba Inc.

 

AWARDS

Steve Melnyk

St-Boniface Hospital Research student, Jassal Laboratory, has won two awards at the 54th annual National Student Research Forum in Galveston, Texas: one for best radiology oral presentation and one for overall first-place oral presentation. Melnyk presented research from the CHIRP study (cardiac hemodynamic imaging and remodelling in pregnancy).

 

Jewish Federation of Winnipeg's annual Kavod Evening
