Michelle Laham Szutiak

of Tradition Law LLP Estates and Trusts has just completed her first year as the editor-in-chief of the National Concordance, a compendium of will and estate law published for lawyers by the Canadian Bar Association and Thomson Reuters Carswell.

Chino Argueta

has been appointed the new director of Youth Agencies Alliance, a network of 18 youth-serving agencies that work and collaborate on issues affecting children and youth across Winnipeg. Argueta is a graduate of the Canadian Mennonite University's bachelor of peace and conflict transformation studies and worked for the Spence Neighbourhood Association as a sport co-ordinator.

Dr. Jack Lipkin

has been appointed as the president of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics.

Katie Dutfield-Wilms

has been appointed client services administrator with the Winnipeg office of the Headhunters. Dutfield-Wilms brings over five years of experience in research, project management and client services within the private and public sectors. The Headhunters is a full-service recruitment firm with offices across Western Canada.

Randy Sawatzky

is now a business development professional with Yes! Winnipeg, creating new jobs by attracting new businesses to Winnipeg, assisting existing companies to expand, and helping entrepreneurs to launch new businesses. Sawatzky is responsible for the transportation and distribution and agri-business sectors.

Brigitte Russell

is now a business development co-ordinator with Yes! Winnipeg, where she will assist the team to create new jobs by attracting new businesses to Winnipeg, assisting existing companies to expand and helping entrepreneurs to launch new businesses. Brigitte will assist on files in the advanced manufacturing, life sciences and energy and environment sectors.

Hill Sokalski Walsh Trippier

is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, both the firm and Dave Hill have been selected by Benchmark Canada as leading litigation firm and leading litigator in Manitoba, respectively. In Benchmark Canada's 2014 publication, Bob Sokalski and Sherri Walsh were acknowledged as local litigation stars, and for the second year in a row, Christian Monnin was acknowledged as one of the future stars in litigation in Manitoba.

 

AWARDS

The University of Manitoba Distinguished Alumni Awards

are as follows: David Matas (BA/1964) will receive the University of Manitoba Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes graduates who are distinguished in their career and in their contributions to society. Bruce Miller (BRS/1999) will receive the University of Manitoba Alumni Community Leadership Award, which recognizes graduates who have significantly contributed to their community at home or abroad, making a difference to the well-being of others. Scott Cairns (BSc[Maj]/2001) will receive the University of Manitoba Alumni Professional Achievement Award, which recognizes graduates who demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in their field of endeavour. John Bockstael (BSc[CE]/1980) will receive the University of Manitoba Alumni Service Award, which recognizes graduates who have demonstrated superior leadership and service to the University of Manitoba. Chau Pham (BSc/2000, MD/2005, MBA/2013) will receive the University of Manitoba Young Alumni Award, which recognizes graduates who are 35 years of age or under at the close of nominations.
