George Wurtak
is joining the International Centre for Infectious Diseases as manager
of the HPV (human papilloma virus) programs. Wurtak joined ICID on Sept. 8, coming from the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division) where he served as director, cancer control programs, and most recently as director, aboriginal initiatives. The Winnipeg-based International Centre for Infectious Diseases acts as a catalyst in infectious disease prevention, gathering and sharing expertise in order to combat infectious diseases worldwide.
Harold Loyns
is the 2008 recipient of the Independent Jewellers/Baume & Mercier Community Service Award, presented annually to a member of the Winnipeg Executives Association for charitable and/or community service. Loyns was a member of the Winnipeg Executives Association with his company, Harold E. Loyns Furs Ltd., from 1955 to 1983. He served as president in 1966. He is primarily being recognized for his six decades of active involvement with the Optimist Club of Winnipeg and Optimist International.
Shayne Lewis
has been appointed CEO of Fingers Foundation Publishing Company, dedicated to serving Canadian artists.
Dean Prevost
has been appointed president of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., MTS Allstream's Enterprise Solutions division, reporting to chief executive officer Pierre Blouin. Prevost succeeds John A. MacDonald who retires after six years with the company. Prevost moves into the role of president from his current position of chief corporate officer.
Mark Eaton
has joined Waterfront Global Inc., an executive search company specializing in global leadership recruitment, as research analyst. Previously, Eaton was with Torys LLP in Toronto. In 2007, Eaton was awarded the James D. Lang Professional Development Award for his ongoing commitment to continuing education in his profession.
ORGANIZATIONS
Institute of Internal Auditors (Winnipeg Chapter)
recognizes the following individuals who have recently attained the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation: Chris Dale, Manitoba Liquor Control Commission; Trevor Elrick, Pollard Banknote Income Fund and David Albert Newman, Province of Manitoba. The Certified Internal Auditor designation is the only globally accepted certification for internal auditors and remains the standard by which individuals demonstrate their competency and professionalism in the internal auditing field.
AWARDS
The Centre for Sustainable Transportation
received an Excellence in Sustainability Award from The Manitoba Round Table for Sustainable Development. This award recognizes the contribution the CST has made as an organization in promoting the principles and understanding of sustainability. This includes research on driver feedback systems, the transportation habits of children (Kids on the Move), and the development of an internationally recognized definition of sustainable transportation.

Arts & Cultural Industries Association of Manitoba
announces its 2008/2009 board: Rita Chahal is chairwoman; Tom Carson is past chairman; Richard Nordrum is vice-chairman; Cynthia Rempel Patrick is treasurer and Nan Colledge is secretary. Other board members are: Mark O'Neill, Tara Walker, Vincent Ellin, Lisa Dziedzic, Karen Grant, Jordan Miller, Lisa Alfred and Lisa Gamblin.
