New Brunswick awards $30-million contract for upgrades to converter station

FREDERICTON - New Brunswick's Crown power company has awarded a $30-million contract to a Swedish company for upgrades to a converter station.

NB Power says the work by ABB will replace equipment at the Eel River high-voltage direct converter station, near the Dalhousie electricity plant.

The station transfers up to 350 megawatts of power and imports and exports electricity between New Brunswick, Quebec and the U.S.

It will be worked on during an outage from the spring until the fall of 2014.
