Marci Elliott
has been appointed director of development at the University of Manitoba's Asper School of Business. A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Elliott has a broad-based history of development experience that includes advertising, film and television, and financial services. She has held senior positions in both the private and not-for-profit sectors and also has experience working with several government departments. As well, she is enrolled part-time in the Asper MBA program.
Les Kletke
was selected to conduct the charity auction at the Global Speakers Summit in Cape Town, South Africa held April 17. The event brought together 250 speakers and meeting planners from around the world. Kletke presented "Put Your Stamp on the Global Market" dealing with understanding cultures when expanding business beyond your own community. Kletke is a member of the Winnipeg chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers and Manitoba Auctioneers Association.
Michelle Barclay
will finish her five-year term as Manitoba provincial commissioner for the Manitoba Girl Guides of Canada at the organization's April 26 annual general meeting. Debra Halligan, a member of Girl Guides of Canada for 26 years, will start her appointment term as provincial commissioner. She will oversee the more than 4,000 girl and adult members of Manitoba Girl Guides who are going into 2010 with their 100th anniversary in Canada.
COMPANIES
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils
has expanded further into the organic food marketplace in the United Kingdom and European Union.
The farmer-owned hemp food manufacturer announced its new partnership with Re-Action Sales of Middlesex to distribute its hemp food products throughout the U.K. Earlier this year, Manitoba Harvest partnered with Hempro International to distribute its foods in Germany.
Mike Fata, president and co-founder of Manitoba Harvest, says, "We began selling hemp foods in Europe in 2006, and our sales have doubled in each of the years since."
Stantec
has made three additions to its consulting team: Jeff Moroz joins the architecture and interior design practice; Christien Jung-Essex also joins the interior design team as manager of corporate interiors; and Alex Burachynsky joins the buildings engineering practice area, and will be a key senior member of Stantec Winnipeg's mechanical engineering group. Stantec, founded in 1954, provides professional consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, project management, and project economics for infrastructure and facilities projects.
ORGANIZATIONS
RANA Respiratory Care Group recently had its status as an accredited organization renewed by Accreditation Canada, a national, non-profit, independent organization. The accreditation program is a cornerstone of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in Canadian health care. RANA Respiratory Care Group delivers community-based services that are effective in the management of respiratory diseases and sleep-disordered breathing.
AWARDS
New Flyer Industries
has been named one of Canada's Greenest Employers for 2009 for the second consecutive year by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers. "Receiving this recognition for the second consecutive year is a great honour," New Flyer president Paul Soubry said. "With millions of people riding our buses every day across North America, it's our responsibility to build environmentally friendly heavy-duty transit vehicles in a sustainable manner." New Flyer operates a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) reduction program, the backbone of its pollution-prevention activities. Since 2004, the facility has reduced VOC emission per production vehicle by approximately 50 per cent. This program is currently focused on the elimination of aerosol cleaning products to reduce VOC emissions by an additional two per cent.
