Parker Hannafin cuts jobs

PARKER Hannafin Canada is cutting one of its Winnipeg lines, which will mean 41 Winnipeg workers will lose their jobs starting in May at the company's Fort Garry plant.

Aidan Gormely, a spokesman for Cleveland-based Parker Hannifin Corp., said the company has decided to exit the wire-harness portion of its business in Winnipeg.

"It has become quite competitive and it was determined it would be best for us to exit that and focus our resources to grow the electronic-controls side of our business in Winnipeg," Gormley said.

He said the company continues to be committed to Winnipeg where it employs more than 500 people.

Parker Hannafin, which operates more than 300 manufacturing facilities in 48 countries, established its Winnipeg presence in 2008 when it acquired Vansco Electronics.
