Six missing after crash

VICTORIA -- Search-and-rescue officials in British Columbia say six people are missing, including an infant, after a float plane crash in the Gulf Islands.

Cpl. Saralynn Hickey of the Victoria joint-rescue co-ordination centre says two people including the pilot were rescued by auxiliary coast guard members.

PM decries anti-gay law

PORT-OF-SPAIN -- Uganda's president got an earful from Prime Minister Stephen Harper over the African nation's proposed law targeting gays.

The Ugandan "anti-homosexuality bill" would impose life imprisonment and even execution on homosexuals. But it barely drew a mention at this weekend's Commonwealth summit in Trinidad and Tobago -- despite calls before the conference for the country's suspension from the organization.

Museum ammo live

OTTAWA -- A Newfoundland museum is proving that military history can be a blast.

Safety officials gingerly removed 13 pieces of ammunition from display cases at the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Museum after an inspection showed the ordnance might be dangerous.

Bats face plague: expert

HALIFAX -- An expert fears bats in Atlantic Canada could be threatened by a mysterious illness that has killed up to 500,000 bats in the northeastern United States.

But Hugh Broders, chairman of biology at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, says bats in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland might be spared if there is no crossover of bats from the mainland.
