A bottleneck on the TransCanada Highway east of Kenora, near Vermilion Bay, has been partially removed.
Ontario Provincial Police said early this afternoon that traffic is now moving along one lane of Highway 17 at the site of a 14-vehicle pileup early this morning at Nixon Lake.
Icy roads were responsible for the pileup, which involved only big trucks — no passenger vehicles.
"We have as many tow trucks as our area will allow us to have and they’re doing their best to get the vehicles off the road," said Const. Erin Huckell said earlier today.
She said the drivers suffered minor injuries, but nothing life-threatening.
Huckell said ice on the highway was responsible for the multiple collision. The terrible road conditions were confined to a small stretch of road, she added.
The crash site is 10 km west of Vermilion Bay.
