Searchers to resume looking for missing Quebec aboriginal teens on May 2

MONTREAL - A search will resume May 2 for two Quebec teens missing since last September from a small town that borders a native reserve north of Ottawa.

Maisy Odjick, 16, and Shannon Alexander,17, were last seen in Maniwaki, next to the Kitigan Zibi First Nation reserve.

Police initially believed the best friends had simply run away, but relatives of both girls insist something else happened because their clothes and wallets were left behind.

Native organizations say cases of missing native women are too often dismissed by police and ignored by mainstream media.

Previous searches by volunteers of the Algonquin reserve and the town of Maniwaki found no sign of the girls last year.

Odjick's mother Laurie says not knowing what happened to her daughter more than seven months ago has been a nightmare.
