Canadians give PM an earful on decision

OTTAWA -- Extracts from emails sent to Prime Minister Stephen Harper about the long-form census debate, over a single week in late July and early August. The emails were obtained by The Canadian Press under the Access to Information Act:

"Even when I disagreed with decisions before, I could understand how someone might rationalize them, but not in this case."

"While I agree it is important to keep the government out of our pockets and minds what you've done to gathering the census data is neither prudent nor sensible."

"I do not support this decision, and will never support any government who makes such rash public-policy decisions."

"Will the Conservatives continue to make policies based on complainers rather than what is best for Canadians, and what is advised by the experts?"

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Leave the census alone!"

"Please don't be swayed by the media who are selling newspapers by keeping this story alive. Thank you for listening to the 'silent majority.' "

"Your position on the Census has me angry and absolutely baffled."
