Brandon mayor apologizes for a 'lapse of judgment'

BRANDON -- The mayor of Brandon has apologized for threatening to slap a city councillor last week.

Mayor Shari Decter Hirst responded to comments made by Coun. Stephen Montague by telling him during a meeting that if he repeated them, she would slap him on the back of his head so hard his head would spin.

On Tuesday, Hirst said she apologized to Montague in front of other councillors for her "aggressive verbal behaviour." She said it was unacceptable and "an egregious lapse of judgment" on her part. She let anger rule her actions, something she has taught her children not to do.

Hirst said Montague accepted her apology.
