Riot couple had no idea photo went viral

They can kiss their anonymity goodbye.

The couple photographed kissing on the ground in the midst of the chaos of Vancouver's riot Wednesday night have been identified, and had no idea a photo of them has flown around the world.

Canadian Alex Thomas, a student at Ontario's University of Guelph, and her boyfriend, Australian Scott Jones, said they had been trying to get out of downtown when the riots broke out after the Vancouver Canucks' Stanley Cup loss.

Riot police had been walking toward them and knocked Thomas to the ground. Jones said he didn't know why the police had pushed them over and had been "beating them with shields."

"I don't know why, we weren't being aggressive towards them or anything like that," he said. She was a bit hysterical afterwards obviously and I was just trying to calm her down."
