Broadway revival of 'Guys and Dolls' finds its Sky and Sarah
NEW YORK - Broadway has found its new Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown.
Craig Bierko will play the suave gambler and Kate Jennings Grant will be the prim Salvation Army miss in the revival of the Frank Loesser musical opening March 1 at the Nederlander Theatre. They join Oliver Platt as the marriage-wary Nathan Detroit and Lauren Graham as the psychosomatic Miss Adelaide.
The production will be directed by Des McAnuff, the former artistic director of Canada's Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
The musical about the raffish denizens of Times Square is based on short stories by Damon Runyon.
Bierko appeared on Broadway in the 2000 revival of Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" and was nominated for a Tony for his performance as Professor Harold Hill.
The following year, he starred in the musical "Thou Shalt Not," which featured a score by Harry Connick Jr., and was based on Emile Zola's "Therese Raquin."
Bierko also starred in the television series "Unhitched" and has appeared in many other TV shows, most notably "Sex and the City."
Grant has appeared on Broadway in such plays as "Proof" and "An American Daughter" and was seen earlier this season in an off-Broadway revival of Christopher Durang's "The Marriage of Bette and Boo."
McAnuff has directed such Broadway hits as "Jersey Boys," Billy Crystal's "700 Sundays" and "Big River."
Preview performances for "Guys and Dolls" begin Feb. 3.
