Montreal-born actor Peter Keleghan to get Award of Excellence from ACTRA
TORONTO - Four-time Gemini Award winner Peter Keleghan is being honoured by the Canadian union representing English-language actors.
ACTRA Toronto will give Keleghan an Award of Excellence in February to herald both his body of work and his activism for the acting community and Canadian culture, officials announced Wednesday.
"Peter has repeatedly found time in a busy career to stand up for his fellow performers," ACTRA Toronto president Karl Pruner said in a release that noted Keleghan has been "an important spokesperson for culture during three federal elections."
He has also lobbied Ottawa "to shore up the weak CRTC regulations that have led to decreased production of Canadian drama," said the release.
Keleghan will receive the honour at the annual ACTRA Awards in Toronto on Feb. 20. Previous winners include Sarah Polley, Paul Gross, Gordon Pinsent, Sonja Smits, Wendy Crewson and Eric Peterson.
Born in Montreal, Keleghan has been a member of the Second City comedy troupe in Toronto and the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
He has more than 70 film and TV credits to his name, including the role of Lloyd Braun - George Costanza's nemesis - on "Seinfeld."
His other TV credits include "The Red Green Show," "The Newsroom," "Made in Canada" and "Billable Hours."
