Country

Brad Paisley

American Saturday Night (Arista/Sony BMG)

Like Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley likes to keep it country. Sure, he skilfully rocks the Fender Tele like a cross between Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler, but he does it with fiddle and pedal steel in tow.

On American Saturday Night, Paisley's celebrated wit is intact, although not as enduring as in the past. Catch All The Fish definitely ain't no Ticks. He fares better on the serious cuts like Welcome To The Future, an ode to evolution and revolution as the arcade migrates to the cell phone and Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks lay the foundation for Obama. Anything Like Me is a "Like Father, Like Son" tale of growing up. Then is the wedding song of the summer. No is a gospel tune.

Paisley is an oddity these days, successfully playing country in the style of legends, yet attracting a youthful audience both male and female. 'Ö'Ö'Ö
