Thursday: Toronto indie-rock group Cuff the Duke visits the Albert in support of its new album, Way Down Here, while War on Music is premiering the new Youth Brigade film, Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records, tonight at 9 p.m. (The punk veterans will play the Pyramid Sept. 30.)

Friday: Noise-rockers These Arms are Snakes are at the Albert, hip-hop star Lupe Fiasco plays the Party at the Parkade at the University of Manitoba and local metal band Xplicit releases its debut album, All Paths Lead Here, at the Zoo.

Friday and Saturday: The Times Change(d) and the Cyrk (254 Young St.) have teamed up to throw a party for Leonard Cohen's 75th birthday with two days of music, poetry, theatre and film. Blind New Orleans bluesman Bryan Lee -- dubbed the Braille Blues Daddy -- is holding court for two nights at the Royal George Hotel in Transcona in support of his forthcoming album, My Lady Don't Love My Lady.

Saturday: She's been to the Winnipeg Folk Festival several times, but this time singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco is bringing her acoustic guitar and political views inside, to the Burton Cummings Theatre. When DiFranco is done, walk over the Albert for the madness that is a White Cowbell Oklahoma gig. The Toronto-based southern rock collective always puts on a wild show, complete with chainsaws and occasional nudity. Earlier in the day, Skate for Cancer is holding a free fundraising show and skateboarding competition at the Forks with live entertainment by Comeback Kid, High Five Drive, the Ripperz, City Champs and more local bands beginning at noon.

Sunday: Metal fans will be worshipping at a different church Sunday as Florida death-metal pioneers Obituary visit the Albert with other awesomely named bands: Goatwhore, Krisiun, Berzerker and Warbringer.
