The Buzz

RANDALL KING / MOVIES

Anton Yelchin

The charismatic young Russian-born actor simultaneously revives SSRq60s sci-fi icon Pavel Chekov (originally played by Walter Koenig) in the movie Star Trek and Terminator fighter Kyle Reese (originally played by Michael Biehn) in Terminator Salvation. It's nice he does good work in both roles. But if he hadn't, he could still do guest star gigs at sci-fi conventions for the rest of his life.

MELISSA MARTIN / MUSIC

Before hitting the clubs, a body needs some party fuel. On that end, Winnipeg has always suffered from a shortage of Mexican restaurants. New solution: Burrito Del Rio on River Avenue, a fresh, assembly-line takeout joint which has been hopping since it opened last week. Try the cute shrimp tacos: ours were perfectly cooked and bursting with juice.

JILL WILSON / TV

Alison Pill in In Treatment

In a series full of compelling characters, her portrayal of a secretive cancer patient who gradually opens up to therapist Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne) is tough, vulnerable and absolutely mesmerizing. The season concludes Sunday and Monday on HBO Canada.

ALISON MAYES / ARTS

Keyboard king

Canadian pianist Anton Kuerti joins the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra for its final concert of the season, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster United Church. Last year, the Austrian-born, Toronto-based Kuerti received the Governor General's performing arts award for lifetime achievement.

KEVIN PROKOSH / THEATRE

We're having Company

As is its habit, Dry Cold Productions is reviving another seldom-seen musical -- Company, the first Stephen Sondheim/Hal Prince collaboration, which broke every rule of musical comedy when it debuted in 1970. See Company at 8 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, as well as Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Canwest Performing Arts Centre.

MORLEY WALKER / BOOKS

New trilogy idea for Robert J. Sawyer?

The news that the online sales juggernaut Amazon is starting its own hardcover book imprint has the struggling old-line publishers damp under the armpits. What's next? Google buying Random House?
