Guitarist Dee Cernile of Sven Gali dies following fight with lung cancer

TORONTO - Dee Cernile, a guitarist for the Canadian hard rock band Sven Gali, has died.

Best known for songs like "Under the Influence," "Tie Dyed Skies," "In My Garden" and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," the band was nominated for Juno Awards in 1993 in the most promising group and best hard rock album categories.

The band first publicly revealed in late 2009 that Cernile had been diagnosed with an advanced form of lung cancer earlier in the year and had been through a number of operations.

This past summer, fundraisers were held to support treatment for Cernile, who at that point had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and just finished undergoing a round of chemotherapy.

A message on Cernile's Facebook profile suggest friends and family are planning a celebration of life party in his honour sometime in the months ahead.
