Fashion gala showcases up-and-coming local models

TODAY, Winnipeg. Tomorrow, the runways of Milan, New York, London and Tokyo.

More than 500 spectators circled the runway at the Canad Inn Polo Park Sunday night for an evening of fashion that showcased not only top Winnipeg clothiers but top Manitoba models poised to break into international markets.

Panache Model & Talent agency introduced its 2003 Faces West Team -- 25 young women and five men who will head to Vancouver later this month to attend the 2003 Faces West International Model & Talent Convention.

The models, ages 13 to 25, will have the opportunity to meet representatives of leading agencies from around the world. This is the same convention that launched the international careers of many top Panache models who have gone on to work in New York, Paris, London and other capitals of the fashion world.

An Evening with Panache also brought to the runway the Winnipeg agency's New Faces Division -- models who are just starting their professional careers.

Fashions modelled during the Faces West fundraising gala ran the gamut from barely-there bikinis to full-length evening gowns.

A group runway competition featured pieces from award-winning Canadian designer Simon Chang and Chestnut Lanes Boutique. Retailers represented included 8180, Girl Candy, Le Chateau, Peepers, Ragazzi, Scerbo Tuxedos and Winnipeg Outfitters.
