A year after the Silver Heights closed its doors, the St. James Assiniboia School Division has sold the schools land to the Green Tree Group to develop condominium homes.
City Coun. Scott Fielding, who graduated from Silver Heights in 1990, said it's time to move forward.
When its your school, its a sad experience, he said. Weve received a lot of phone calls. There is a need for condos for people who want to downsize after their kids leave the house, but want to stay in the community.
Fielding said there will be an open house in the fall to give area residents the opportunity to provide feedback.
We want to make sure there is public input in what the project will look like, he said.
Silver Heights merged with Sturgeon Creek High School to form College Sturgeon Heights Collegiate after the school experienced a steady decline in students.
The school celebrated a 50th anniversary reunion last July after school was let out for the last time.
