About a year ago, Southern First Nations Child and Family Services Authority started a quality assurance review of the agency, which provides services to Lake Manitoba, Lake St. Martin, Pinaymootang, Little Saskatchewan and Dauphin River First Nations. The agency's executive director and one other person were put on leave and an administrator was brought in to manage it.
Southeast Child and Family Services
The review was triggered last fall following the inquest into 14-year-old Tracia Owen's suicide.
It includes a check on the status of children in the care of Southeast as well as a review of the agency's finances and operations. The agency's director is on administrative leave.
Southeast covers some of the province's most impoverished First Nations such as Little Grand Rapids, Pauingassi and Bloodvein.
Sagkeeng Child and Family Services
The review was launched after the murder of two-year-old Gage Guimond. It includes not just Guimond's case but the entire operation of the agency.
