Personality separates one new home from another.
Usually, a home's personality is derived from a unique design, one that deviates from the norm in its layout, finishes or both. The Artista Homes show home at 28 Benson Blvd. -- a 2,391 sq. ft. bungalow in the countrified community of Oak Bluff West -- is one such home.
It has an extra-wide lot, said Artista Homes sales rep Jennifer Gulay.
"The lot is 82 feet wide," she said. "That allowed our designers to design a spacious, well-laid-out bungalow. All the available space allowed them to create an open, yet segmented floor plan. They did a wonderful job of creating separate spaces, yet the spaces are still open to each other. That's hard to accomplish, but they succeeded."
The kitchen is huge. Featuring a 10-foot long off-white quartz island (with seating for three) - plus a dinette area that easily contains a table for four -- there's still plenty of room to move thanks to wide aisle ways and an ergonomically sound design.
Black-painted maple cabinets and taupe quartz countertops were placed on the kitchen's periphery.
A bank of windows on the rear wall - 10 in total, including six that surround the dinette flood the area with natural light, and provide a near-panoramic view of the wetlands out back.
"Artista's designers even placed the island's seating to face the windows so you can enjoy the view while you eat," said Gulay. "And the kitchen/dinette area feels even bigger than it is due to the 12-foot ceiling and all the light that's coming in."
Whereas many great room designs feature a dining room set well away or entirely open to the kitchen, the dining room in 28 Benson was set next to the kitchen, but is neatly divided from it by a three-quarter taupe wall clad with more brick accenting.
It opens neatly onto the family room, which like the dining room, features dark handscraped maple hardwoods. Meanwhile, four large windows further showcase the wetlands to the rear.
"The rear portion of the home is literally a wall of windows," she said. "They maximize both the view and light, and even provide light (from a large window over the basement stairs) for the lower level."
Tucked away to the side of a sunken back door that leads to a brick patio that overlooks the wetlands, the lower level staircase transports you down to an open-concept rec room that houses a media area (with 100-inch projection screen), games area with wet bar and flex space.
The lower level, which offers 2,000 sq. ft. of liveable space, is rounded out by an exercise room, a fourth bedroom, three-piece bath, under-stair storage off the exercise room and another door that leads to more storage and stairs up to the triple garage.
"It's an open, yet defined area that's beautifully finished with a two-sided (gas) fireplace (set in brick) in the media area and a wall-wide wet bar with brick backdrop," Gulay added. "The bedroom, which offers a huge window and walk-in closet, is set away from the rec room, and would make a great guest room, or bedroom for a teen wanting privacy."
Head back upstairs and there's an enclosed bedroom wing that offers an ideal blend of space, privacy and style.
"Visitors have told us the really like the fact the laundry room was placed near the bedrooms rather than in the mudroom (off the foyer). Both secondary bedrooms are oversized with walk-in closets with custom shelving and huge windows, and there's a four-piece bathroom with soaker tub, porcelain tile floor, and black maple vanity with a quartz countertop and square raised (ceramic) vessel sink," she said.
Set away from the two bedrooms, the master suite is a true sanctuary.
"The first thing you see is a huge window that gives you a gorgeous view of the lake," said Gulay.
"The ensuite features a seven-foot tile shower with tempered-glass front, two body sprays and a rain-shower head. Across the way, there's a six-foot jetted tub set in taupe tile with brick lining the back wall. There's also a floating vanity with double sinks. There's also a huge walk-in closet with built-in shelving."
Gulay said the home strikes the right balance between fashion and function.
"Its design is innovative, yet the home is still very functional," she said. "It's a well-laid-out, beautifully finished home that's in a quiet, safe location that's ideal for a family."
