Get the H1N1 shot, health officials urge
WINNIPEG - Provincial health officials are encouraging Manitobans who haven’t been vaccinated against H1N1 influenza to get the shot.
Manitoba’s chief medical officer, Dr. Joel Kettner, said he doesn’t know if the peak of the second wave of H1N1 has hit or when the wave will end.

He said the disease continues to spread across the province, and another 703 cases of H1N1 were reported between Nov. 16 to 23.
Manitoba has now reported a total of 1,246 lab confirmed cases of H1N1, and two deaths.

we were meant to get sick and develop our own immune system, mother nature is alot more smart than science.

Another medical article in today's Freep advises taking Vitamin C will fight these viruses as well so there is an option .

Sherrid-The statistics are less deaths for the H1N1. If it was anything to worry about we would have felt it back in May. However, there is a mutation in the Ukraine right now that may be something to be concerned about...just google it.This present vaccination would not do anything to help us with that mutation. So why don't we know more about it?

I just think the drug comapnies and hand sanitizer companies want to make more money off of H1N1...This flu is no different from the rest.

Mike: I feel so guilty. You're right i need to run out and get my shot today. The idea of possibly infecting someone and making them mildly ill is driving me crazy!....I don't care if Health Canada stated that very limited testing was done on the vaccine. Or the fact that the drug company stated very limited testing was done. Or that more people have died in November from the vaccine than the virus..You're right Mike, I'm sure its safe and we should just trust science..(heard of Vioxx?). And I'm sure those 63,000 doses that were recalled but went into the arms of Manitobans was just a blip and those folks will probably be fine. And the Japanese government are crazy for reconsidering purchasing this vaccine from GSK because of what happened in Manitoba. And if you say it's 99% effective then it must be. I'll bet those drug companies who actually did post the efficiacy of their vaccine at less then 50% are wrong.
Thanks for setting me (and hopefully alot of other people) straight..I know where I'll be today..

I've never had a flu shot nor will I get the H1N1. My wife has a reduced immunity system and has near-fatal reactions when a new 'drug' is introduced into her body. She will not get the shot either but will get the regular flu shot. The whole mess frightens me and, politics aside, the various advice from so many so-called experts, scares the hell out of me as well.

And to add to my earlier post, the statistics for those who die each year from Influenza A has been left out of any statistics as of late because we know it's a fact that people die from it each year.
Why not compare those statistics to those who have died from H1N1? You will see that the statistics are quite comparable.

It's funny how they want to URGE us to get the shot, yet they cannot provide us with any numbers as to how many have adverse reactions to it or where and how many people were in the preliminary studies.
I refuse to take a vaccine when the long term affects have not been studied, and when it is remarkably close in make up as the same vaccine made in the 70's that still has outstanding court cases for those it left with severe neurological complications.
So unless they can show me proven statistics and long term affects, there is no way they are getting that vaccine anywhere near me. Also, why is it that if you were in Switzerland you would get a vaccine that has NO MERCURY in it whatsoever and here it has it in it? Obviously, our country is behind the times on what is acceptable to be injected into one's body. I have seen stats that show that vaccines in European countries are much safer than what we receive here.

What a crock
-of course you'd advise all to get it, you ordered enough of it and yeah I guess you will need to be accountable if it ends up being wasted. Time limit on it huh? I don't care, I ain't gettin' it and guess what, YOUR heads should roll IF you committed to it with Glaxo et al. Taxpayer on the hook for every screwup when it comes to your incompetence but then again, time will tell when you're asked to explain "why" so much is waiting in storage (stockpiled LOL) for NOBODY to show up to get stuck with the rusty needle.
Good luck when trying to get people in December too, where's this flu anyway, not much talk anywhere in the workforce or in stores, public etc., who's sick??? Are they all those GENDERLESS 18 - 65 year olds perhaps????
DOES NOT nip it in the bud like some will tell you, what, we're going to stick the whole world with the stuff?? Get real, all hype and panic still won't convince me or the other 2/3 of MB. so enough yapping about getgetgetgetIT already because 2/3 have already made up their mind! Yes, it's a magical potion and you're invincible for "how many days, weeks or months from a lot of other stuff you can catch from others? Uh, let's just focus on H1N1 because that's the soup du jour huh? Kettner "doesn't know either way?" I thought he was the Big Kahuna of H1N1 and shouldn't he know when it hits, when it gets to another phase and when it ends? Sheesh, THE Supreme Being IS clueless? oh dear...

I am not sure of their urgency. The fatality rates are considerably less than any seasonal flu. Flu season is almost over...50 ppl had sever reactions from the shot...
Can you say lucrative hype people? And you paid for it.
I had the H1N1 back in May and it is no different in it's symptoms.
I will never get a flu shot.
