BORDER Crossings, a Winnipeg-based arts magazine, held its biennial fundraising gala Friday, Feb. 29, at the Fort Garry Hotel.
Titled Paradise Lost and Found, Border Crossings Leap Year Gala 2008, the evening featured works of art from internationally renowned artists.

This lavish fundraising event filled the seventh-floor ballrooms as guests mingled and perused the art auction with pieces by Guy Maddin, Paul Butler, Wanda Koop, Jordan Van Sewell, Erica Eyres and Aganetha Dyck.
Published quarterly, Border Crossings, A Magazine of the Arts, covers the visual, performing and literary arts, and celebrates its 27th year. Renowned for its interviews, this award-winning Winnipeg-based magazine explores all areas of contemporary art, taking its readers to the edges of their imaginations.
Dancing with Celebrities
Dancing with Celebrities 2008 in support of Easter Seals Manitoba and SMD Foundation was held Friday, Feb. 29, in the Delta Winnipeg ballroom.
The cast of dancers included Joanne Kelly (Shaw TV), Laurie Mustard (Winnipeg Sun), Ashley Prest (Winnipeg Free Press), Craig Larkins (Global TV), Rachel Lagace (CTV), Hugh McFadyen (PC Party of Manitoba), Jessica King (Ms. Calgary Stampede 2007), David Northcott (Winnipeg Harvest) and John Sauder (CBC TV).
Each contestant worked with a professional ballroom dance instructor from Patricia's Dance Studio and Swing Club performing dances including the rumba, swing, jive and salsa. This second annual evening of class, competition and cause, fancy footwork, spinning and swinging provides funds to strengthen programs and services provided to Manitobans with disabilities.
