Your Weekend Weather

OK, kids, pull on your goofy holiday sweaters, put down your eggnog and get ready to sing along with Doug.

Today, instead of our usual accurate and informative weekend weather forecast, we are going to make a joyful noise by belting out a brand-new Christmas carol Uncle Doug has written just for you. It goes a little something like this:

"You better watch out/You better not cry

Better not pout/Doug is telling you why

A big fat warm air mass is coming to town

It's there in the forecast/I've checked it twice

It should melt all that (very bad word) ice

A big fat warm air mass is coming to town!"

There, doesn't that make you feel warm and fuzzy, despite the fact that whenever you walk into a shopping mall gangs of desperate holiday shoppers elbow you in the throat, and store clerks, driven insane after hearing Jingle Bells for the kazillionth time, wallop you over the head with giant novelty candy canes?

Well, Uncle Doug can't take all the credit for this joyful musical interlude. He wrote it after his buddy, Environment Canada weather expert Dale Marciski, informed him we are looking at above-normal temperatures EVERY SINGLE DAY this week. For example, the weather office says today we'll see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -4 C. The best news of all? On Sunday, the high could hit an amazing 5 C.

Even though we love getting a cardio workout shovelling our driveway, we are not about to let a dearth of snow ruin our holiday season.

Not when we can get out there and enjoy the Christmas Light Run on the Assiniboine Valley Railway nightly to Jan. 8. Tickets are only $2.

Or we can get into the spirit of the season by checking out the one million sparkly lights in 29 themed areas at the Canad Inns Winter Wonderland drive-thru light show at Red River Exhibition Park.

Or, if you are feeling brave, you could head to a mall and do some last-minute shopping. Please do not worry about buying anything for Uncle Doug. All he needs is to hear your joyous voices raised in song. Although some noise-blocking headphones would be nice, too.
