The Manitoba Marathon Foundation kicked off their 35th marathon weekend with some of the first marathon's participants and organizers attending.

This year the marathon is working under a Mardi Gras theme, which Manitoba Marathon Foundation chair Leilani Kagan said was created under the idea that participants should have a "good time."

For the first time the marathon is also partnering with 11 different charities that runners can pledge to when they are running, Kagan said.

Kagan added the foundation is expecting 14,000 participants this year.

The marathon will take place Sunday.

Lace 'em and hit the pavement – it's marathon weekend!
