The Winnipeg Police Service will be on the receiving end of more than $356,000 thanks to a program which takes seized criminal property and directs the funds to law enforcement.
The money is part of a $1-million grant that will be distributed across the province, according to a police press release.
The money comes from property that is auctioned off, though police also seize large amounts of cash, which Staff Sgt. Rob Riffel said they are happy to deposit. The money goes into the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund and distributed several times a year.
The grant will go towards the purchase of two cargo vans, surveillance equipment as well as training and equipment for medical personnel.
