Armstrong Point group takes case against school expansion to court

  • Print

The Armstrong’s Point Association will return to the Court of Appeal Friday to continue its case against the City of Winnipeg’s decision to permit expansion of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate.

The association said today it has taken the City to court, maintaining the City broke its own laws and failed in its responsibility to protect a significant older neighbourhood.

Residents say the private high school expansion would be too great for the area, and would pose traffic and safety concerns.

"It's a no-win situation for both parties. This expansion would change the nature of our neighbourhood forever and it will never be big enough to accommodate their long-term goals," said West Gate resident and association chairperson Thomas McLeod.

"Residents have worked too hard to preserve this historic area, for the benefit of the citizens of Winnipeg."
