An apparently unprovoked attack sent a 28-year-old man to hospital.

Police were called to an apartment building in the 200 block of Evanson Street around 4:35 p.m. on Saturday after the report of a stabbing incident.

Officers found a 28-year-old man with multiple stab wounds in his upper body and paramedics took him to hospital in stable condition.

Upon investigation, police discovered that the alleged attacker, a 56-year-old man, and victim were acquaintances who live in the same area. In what appeared to be an unprovoked attack, police said the suspect produced a knife and began stabbing and threatening to kill the victim in a common area of their apartment building.

The suspect stayed put until officers arrived and he was arrested.

Wayne Hunt, 56, has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm due to his alleged involvement. He remains in custody.

Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit continue to investigate with the help of patrol members and the Forensic Identification Section.
