4 charged after West K brawl with cops
Four men are facing charges after police officers were attacked in West Kildonan early today.
Winnipeg police said they went to Carsdale Drive and Swinford Way at about 1 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired and a lot of people gathering.
Police said once they arrived they had to disarm a man armed with a hammer.
While arresting a 19-year-old man, another 19-year-old man began pushing officers, another 19-year-old grabbed an empty bottle and tried striking an officer, and a 20-year-old jumped in.
Two of the men tried fleeing the area, but they were nabbed through the efforts of the police helicopter, the canine unit, the tactical support team, and uniformed officers.
Three 19-year-old men and a 20-year-old man are facing charges of assaulting a police officer. One of the teens and the 20-year-old man are also facing a charge of possessing a dangerous weapon.
All four men have been released on promises to appear in court.
