History on wheels

Ride into Winnipeg's past with Sam's Spiel, a one-person play about the Winnipeg general strike written by Danny Schur. Ride along on a heritage trolley as you are transported back to Bloody Saturday alongside journalist Sam Lockhart, played by Justin Schafer. Tour the world

Gear up for an international trip, minus the jet lag. Check out the many pavilions at Folklorama, a local celebration of international culture offering authentic food, dance and cultural displays from a score of exotic countries. Take in a show

Head down to Kildonan Park to watch Rainbow Stage's presentation of the iconic musical, Annie. Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip, Annie tells the story of a young, spirited orphan growing up in depression-era New York. When taken for the holidays to live with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, the plucky Annie reminds the hardened bachelor that the sun will always come out tomorrow. There are two performances of Annie today, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission prices range from $35 to $59.50. For more information visit rainbowstage.ca.

Take to the streets

Experience some authentic Chinese culture at the Winnipeg Chinatown Street Festival. The festival is an open event featuring live, cultural entertainment, including music, dance and kung fu demonstrations. The street festival will be taking over King Street between James Street and Rupert Avenue from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. Admission is free. Visit a fairy tale

See a fantastical new world at Winnipeg Art Gallery's Fairy Tales, Monsters, and the Genetic Imagination. The exhibit features more than 60 works by contemporary artists highlighting invented creatures and far off lands. The WAG is open today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission prices range from $8 to $10. Groove in the park

Enjoy the summer day at Assiniboine Park's Summer Music Series at the Lyric Theatre. Tonight, grab a blanket, some friends and take in the mellow stylings of contemporary jazz artist Brian Hughes.
