Become a book worm

Book lovers unite at Thin Air, Winnipeg's International Writing Festival. The weeklong festival of readings, book signings, discussions and workshops continues today with the mainstage event Voices from Oodena. Presented at The Forks' ampitheatre, the event presents a history of the venue from the commissioned work of local writers. See a literary classic set to song at Dry Cold's production of Little Women, the Broadway Musical. Louisa May Alcott's beloved classic tells the story of the four March sisters as they journey into adulthood during the Civil War. Celebrate 100 years of art

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is celebrating its centennial anniversary by revisiting some of the gallery's defining exhibitions. Come check out the WAG Century exhibit that features an archival timeline of the prairie gallery's history as well as favourite exhibits such as the tomb of Tutankhamen and the works of Vincent Van Gogh. The gallery is open today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission ranges from $6 to $18. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 786-6641 or at wag.ca

 

Go to a Bloc Party

Spend your Sunday rocking out to the complex, cool melodies of British indie band Bloc Party at the Burton Cummings Theatre at 8 p.m. The band will be playing material from its new album Four. Ticket prices range from $42.25 to $46.25. To buy tickets, visit ticketmaster.ca.

 

Enjoy an afternoon SNAC

Feeling a little glum about the state of the world? The St. Norbert Arts Centre (SNAC) is throwing an event today that aims to solve the problem. Running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., David Church, change management consultant, will be giving tips on how arts and culture can help change society. After, there will be some jazz in the gallery with Guillermo Ocejo and Gonzalo Godio. Admission is by donation, with a suggested donation of $20. Walk back in time

Escape the 21st century in favour of a simpler era at A Walk Back in Time - Armstrong's Point House Tour. Residents of some of the city's heritage homes in Armstrong's Point are opening their doors to the public today from noon until 4 p.m. Get a look inside some of the architecturally stunning homes and hear their personal history from the families who know them best. In addition to the tours, enjoy an old-fashioned puppet show, lemonade stand and an art display by Armstrong's Point artists. Tickets are $25 and can be bought at McNally Robinson. Spend your afternoon with Dickens

See local history blended with a literary mastermind at Dalnavert Museum's performance of Dalnavert Copperfield. Performer in residence Ian Mozdzen and visual artist Doug Melnyk team up to meld the writings of Charles Dickens and the rich history of Dalnavert in a theatrical tour and performance.
