86 nominees for Women of Distinction Awards
THERE are 86 nominations for the 2013 Women of Distinction Awards, which will presented on May 1 by the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg.
Susan Auch, the three-time Olympic speedskating medallist, will host the 37th edition of the awards, themed Recognizing Inspiring Women in Action, at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
"Every year as the nominations pour in, I am so inspired by the stories of these remarkable women," Betty Black, chairwoman of the Women of Distinction steering committee, said in a press release. "These awards offer an opportunity to put these women in the spotlight and give them some well-deserved recognition for their contributions."
The 86 women were nominated in 12 categories including: Arts, Circle of Inspiration, Culture, Education Training & Mentorship, Leadership & Management, Public Awareness & Communications, Science, Technology & the Environment, Voluntarism, Advocacy & Community Enhancement, Wellness, Healthy Living & Recreation, Young Woman of Distinction, the Gerrie Hammond Memorial Award of Promise and the Prairie Award of Promise. The two Awards of Promise recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

A charitable tax receipt is available. Proceeds support the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg's community initiatives such as youth leadership development programs, the Power of Being a Girl conferences, Y Neighbours, Y Women and the YWCA's Week Without Violence.
