Police cruisers involved in two collisions

Winnipeg police cruisers were involved in two collisions with other vehicles Monday.

One collision took place at about 7 p.m. near the intersection of rue Archibald and Cote Street. A cruiser with sirens and flashers on slammed into the driver’s side of a car, said Ray Senecal, who saw the crash.

"The police car just creamed them," he said.

He said emergency responders attended to passengers in both vehicles. There was no word about injuries Monday evening.

Earlier Monday evening, a police cruiser collided with another car at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Carlton Street.

David Du-Hamel was crossing Portage at the intersection at around 6 p.m., when he heard sirens and stopped at the median. He said a grey car was heading southbound on Carlton when it collided with one of two police cars heading east on Portage. The driver of the grey car, a woman who appeared to be in her 20s, had a green light, while the police cars were passing through on a red with their sirens sounding, he said.

The force of the collision sent the vehicles spinning, said Du-Hamel.

Police would not release information about the crashes Monday evening.
