Alcohol a factor in crash that killed woman, left man in critical condition: RCMP

An early-morning crash on the south Perimeter Highway has claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman and left a man in critical condition.

St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP and local emergency services crews went to the scene of the two-vehicle crash on the Perimeter, a mile east of St. Anne's Road, at around 4 a.m. today.

RCMP say a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes, going against traffic, when it collided head-on with a westbound 2001 Buick Century.

The Buick's driver, a 21-year-old woman from the Morden area, was taken to hospital, and later pronounced dead. A passenger of the Buick, a 23-year-old man, is in hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the truck was uninjured, and is in police custody while charges are determined.

Police say alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.

An RCMP traffic collision analyst was on-scene to help with the investigation.
