Ambulance goes into ditch after taking patient to The Pas

Two paramedics were unhurt when an ambulance lost traction and crashed into a ditch after taking a patient to The Pas last night.

A spokesman for the Northern Health Region said the two paramedics were making their return run to Easterville, a Métis community next to Chemawawin First Nation, when the ambulance ended up on its side in a ditch off Highway 60, 28 kilometres east of Highway 10 at about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

"They weren’t there long. A passerby stopped and the paramedics radioed it in. Fire and ambulance (crews) were dispatched from The Pas and fire from Easterville. They waited in the passerby’s vehicle where it was warm," the spokesman said.

A mechanical problem with the ambulance is being blamed for the accident. The ambulance is being repaired.

Easterville is 471 kilometres and The Pas is 633 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
