  • Print

Alcohol was named a factor in a fatal highway accident near Ashern that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man.

Ashern RCMP say just before 4:00 a.m. they answered a call about a motor vehicle collision on Old 514 Road, approximately 5 kilometres north of Highway 68.

Officers arrived on scene and discovered a SUV on its roof. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old male from the RM of Grahamdale, was not wearing a seatbelt and had been ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger, a 26-year-old male from Lake Manitoba First Nation, had been buckled up and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A RCMP Forensic Traffic Reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation today.
