Winnipeg drivers never speed, right?
Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen confirmed Saturday morning that police are mounting traffic enforcement operations to check those speeds on city streets in coming weeks.
The first of them was staged last night in the inner city.
If you drove down Maryland Street Friday and spotted a line of police cruisers and unmarked cars lined up between Ellice and Portage avenues, then you saw the operation.
The noses were pointed out to allow the officers to trigger their automated licence plate reader and clock speeds of passing motorists.
One witness said the effort drew public attention but nobody knew what was going on. Now we do.
"I can tell you it’s involving traffic enforcement," said Michalyshen.
He added there will be more operations over the summer.
