Use caution in snowy weather, police warn

Winnipeg police are urging motorists to slow down while driving in blustery weather.
Winnipeg police Const. Jason Michalyshen said a traffic standard was knocked over today at Bison Drive and Barnes Street following a motor vehicle collision. He said city streets are slippery due to the recent mild weather, and visibility is poor in many areas due to blowing snow.
Environment Canada forecasts snow and blowing snow in open areas in Winnipeg today. The city is expected to receive two centimetres of snow, and southern wind gusts are expected to increase from 40 km/h to 60 km/h. Winds are forecast to diminish to 20 km/h this afternoon.
"Road conditions are somewhat treacherous," Michalyshen said this afternoon. "It's going to be slick."
Michalyshen said collisions are common in this type of weather and drivers should reduce their speed and use caution while driving in blustery conditions.
Skies are expected to clear before tomorrow morning. Tomorrow's high is -12 C.
