Boater's body recovered

The body of a boater, missing on Split Lake since May 22, has been recovered.

John Edward Sinclair, 41, of York Landing, was found by boaters close to the shore near where his empty boat was found the day he went missing.

RCMP say no foul play is suspected.

Sinclair had been travelling back and forth by boat from York Landing to the community of Split Lake near Tataskweyak Cree Nation on May 22. He had left Split Lake to return to York Landing at about 8:15 p.m. At about 8:30 p.m., his empty boat was found running and going in circles. The boat was damaged as if it had hit a reef.

Witnesses said Sinclair was not wearing a life preserver.

Police and community members using a boat and a tracking dog searched for Sinclair for more than week.
