Bob Axworthy is looking to carry the family torch in politics.

The Manitoba Liberals said today Bob Axworthy will run as the Manitoba Liberal candidate in the Fort Whyte byelection.

The Liberals plan to officially announce his candidacy tomorrow, the party said in a release.

Axworthy’s eldest brother, Lloyd, was a federal Liberal cabinet minister and MP and is currently president of the University of Winnipeg. Bob Axworthy’s older brother Tom was an advisor and speechwriter for former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.

Bob Axworthy has lived in the Fort Whyte constituency for 13 years and has been involved in the community club and has served as a coach and mentor, the release said.

The byelection will be held on Sept. 4. Newly elected Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister is in the running along with NDP candidate Brandy Schmidt.
