Building inspector designs homes for company registered to his wife

A City of Winnipeg building inspector who has been accused of selling forged documents designs homes for a company registered to his wife.

A recent report revealed the city revoked three of Hollywood Homes Inc.'s building permits for properties on Pritchard Avenue, Bowman Avenue and Chevrier Boulevard after officials discovered submitted drawings were deliberately altered to indicate they were approved by an engineer.

Hollywood Homes Inc. owner Dave Haner alleged he purchased the blueprints with a false engineering seal from a city building inspector, prompting an internal city investigation into the matter. The allegations have not been proven.

Last week, Steinhilber declined to speak with the Free Press about Haner's allegations.

Last week, City of Winnipeg officials declined an interview request on whether this is a potential conflict-of-interest.

In an email statement, city spokeswoman Alissa Clark said the city’s code of conduct requires employees to disclose a perceived or potential conflict-of-interest in writing to their department head.
