Three fires in the city overnight
There were three fires in the city overnight, two in empty North End houses, and one at Eastman Feeds on Marion Street.
A house fire at 476 Burrows Ave., early today destroyed much of the building and closed the street to eastbound traffic during rush hour.
At about 3:18 a.m., firefighters received a call about the North End fire. By the time they arrived on the scene, it was fully in flames, a fire department spokesman said.
The fire is under investigation, but the spokesman said the cause is suspicious. They estimate $175,000 in damage.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire and there were no injuries the fire department said.
Earlier Thursday, at 12:28 a.m., a 2 1/2-storey vacant house at 321 Magnus Avenue caught fire.
The fire started in the kitchen, the fire department spokesman said, and there were no injuries. Damage to the house is estimated to be $20,000.
