Cadets nab teen after robberies

Two members of the Winnipeg Police Service Cadets are credited with arresting a drunken 15-year-old boy at Portage and Donald last night, who is believed responsible for a robbery in the North End earlier in the night.

Police said cadets came across a scene at Portage Avenue and Donald Street at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, where the drunken 15-year-old was harassing people in the area.

When the cadets attempted to arrest the boy, he threatened them with a knife and assaulted them. The cadets were not injured in the incident and the boy was taken down and placed in custody.

It’s alleged that the 15-year-old was one of two suspects who, at about 9:30 p.m., had threatened a 30-year-old man with a knife near Dufferin Avenue and Robinson Street and robbed him of his cash.

Paramedics spotted a drunken 14-year-old boy near Carlton Street and Ellice Avenue at about 11 p.m. After he was checked, police were called and arrested him in connection with the robbery.

The 15-year-old boy has been charged with several offences, including robbery with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon, causing a disturbance and five counts of failure to comply with sentencing terms.

The 14-year-old boy has been charged with robbery with a weapon and three counts of failing to comply with sentencing terms.

Both boys were placed into custody.
