Canadian families needed for program that welcomes newcomers
WINNIPEG -- A summer program in Winnipeg is offering families a chance to make new friends and learn about another culture.
The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) is looking for Canadian families to help newcomer families get off to a good start this summer.
The family-to-family program pairs newcomer families with Canadian families to get together three or four times throughout the summer for activities like a barbecue or picnic, going to The Forks, the beach, or a summer event. The program includes a two-hour training session on cross-cultural communication the evening of May 29 and a get-to-know-you event for the host and newcomer families June 2.
IRCOM is a not-for-profit organization that manages a 67-suite transitional housing complex for 300 recently arrived newcomers and provides them with settlement support services. For more information contact Vanessa Kornelsen at 918-1154 or ircomf2f@gmail.com
