  • Print

An alert cashier at a downtown retail store led Winnipeg police to break up a money-counterfeiting operation.

The cashier in the 400 block of Portage Avenue noticed a man trying to pay with a counterfeit U.S. $20 bill last week. The cashier alerted building security, who alerted police.

The suspect's arrest led to subsequent search residence in the area of Yale Avenue East and Wabasha Street in Transcona. Police found completed and partly completed counterfeit bills and counterfeiting equipment.

A 28-year-old man from Winnipeg is facing numerous charges including making counterfeit money, and possession and uttering of counterfeit money.
