Casinos now allow alcohol on gaming floors

You can now hold a beer bottle and sip on an alcoholic drink while trying to strike it rich.

Andrea Kowal, a spokeswoman for Manitoba liquor and Lotteries Corporation, said that starting Dec. 28, a policy change by the corporation let the provincially-run casinos allow casino patrons to drink booze on the gaming floors.

Kowal said before the change patrons could only drink an alcoholic drink in either the casino’s bars or restaurants.

"A lot of people were very surprised when we told them they had to keep the drink in the restaurant or bar," she said today.

"This change brings Manitoba in line with other Canadian jurisdictions."

Kowal said First Nations casinos made the change earlier in December.
